Massachusetts Verilife Customers Donate Nearly $5,000 of ‘Spare Change’ to Support Citizens Experiencing Homelessness

WAREHAM, Mass. (March 28, 2023) – Customers of Verilife dispensaries in Massachusetts reached into their pockets during the last two quarters of 2022 to donate the spare change from their dispensary purchases to Turning Point Wareham (Wareham Area Committee for the Homeless – WACH), a nonprofit organization that provides services and assistance to unhoused and near-homeless populations. The final tally of donations from Verilife patrons added up to a whopping $4,624 to help those experiencing homelessness in the Massachusetts communities of Wareham, Carver, Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester, Middleboro and Buzzards Bay.

“Most people can relate to the fact that anyone can fall on hard times that might jeopardize their living situations,” said Shelley Stormo, Vice President of Stores and Operations, Verilife. “So when our customers heard we were supporting Turning Point, they opened up their hearts and their wallets. We are grateful for their generosity and willingness to support heating oil and rental assistance for individuals and families facing financial crisis and impending homelessness as rents and the cost of heating oil continue to rise.”

Turning Point Wareham is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonsectarian, volunteer, community-based organization working to empower those challenged with the issues of homelessness and near homelessness by providing confidential, supportive, and educational services. Turning Point collaborates with other local service agencies in order to come together as a community to assist the most needy.

“In a winter marked with bitter cold spells and reduced government funding support, this donation from Verilife customers comes at a crucial time for those in need throughout our community,” said Chuck McCullough, president of the Turning Point/WACH Board of Directors. “This money will make a huge difference in the lives of fellow citizens across the area. It may be cold outside, but we can feel the warmth of the Verilife community.”

Verilife’s “round up” program asks customers to round up purchases to the nearest dollar and donate the resulting spare change to a designated charity. Donations resulting from purchases made during the first two quarters of 2023 will be distributed to the The Last Prisoner Project and can be made by rounding up purchases at all Verilife Massachusetts locations through June 30, 2023.
